Blooming mystery flower [aka amaryllis]

We’ve had this flower in a pot in our house for seven years.  During that time, it has bloomed a few times, but mot often, it has been dormant.  For some reason, perhaps the early spring, it just bloomed spectacularly. I didn’t remember that it was a pink blossom last time, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.

Monkey Man and Gorilla Girl were shouting, “Look, it came out, the flower came out!” this morning. We were treated to the glorious color on a somewhat cloudy morning.

We still don’t know what kind of flower it is, or why it only comes out every few years, but we appreciate this unexpected gift of spring.

As hannabird said, your flower is an amaryllis 🙂 They normally bloom in the winter months, and many people force them around the holidays for festive decoration.
